Day / thousand
According to the scriptures, 2 Peter 3:8 states,
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
Let’s consider this calculation:
One day with God is equivalent to a thousand years on earth.
Twenty-four hours with God equals a thousand years.
Twelve hours with God equals 500 years on earth.
Six hours with God equals 250 years on earth.
Three hours with God equals 125 years on earth.
One hour with God equals 41.667 years on earth.
This means that few people manage to spend the equivalent of nearly three hours with God, which is equivalent to 125 years on earth. So, what in this world is taking our attention away from God? Even if you are the richest person and live to be 125 years old, you have only spent three hours with God. Let us, therefore, entrust everything to God and prioritize our relationship with Him. The Bible states in Mark 8:36
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul’’ lose his soul forever in hell. No wonder the Bible told us to seek heaven first, that all other things shall be added unto us (Matthew 6:33 ): "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." No wonder King Solomon stated in the book of Ecclesiastes 1:2, “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.”
King Solomon experienced wealth, honor, and every imaginable earthly pleasure. He had many wives and concubines, yet he concluded that all is vanity. My friends, let us not hold onto this world as if it were our final destination. Remember, we will take nothing with us when we leave this world, just as we brought nothing into it. Our possessions—houses, cars, wealth—will not grant us entry into heaven. One day, we will say goodbye to this world.
If the story of your life were to be written down for others to read, would you be proud of what they see? If your behavior towards others were to be made into a film for the world to watch, would you be comfortable with it being shown or published online while you are still alive? May God help us to live each day as if Jesus could return at any moment, so that our place in heaven will not be taken away from us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
