What is PAST GLORY?
Past glory refers to achievements, success, or moments of greatness that occurred in the past. It often evokes feelings of nostalgia and pride. Whether it’s an individual’s personal accomplishments, a nation’s historical events, or a team’s victories, past glory holds a special place in our memories.
Some individuals with a promising destiny did not achieve or display their full potential. Many once-great stars are now nowhere to be found, wandering aimlessly, and living unfulfilled lives. Some blame witches and wizards from their village, others their stepmothers, and some see their unfulfilled destinies as generational curses. Despite fervent prayers, climbing mountains, and seeking help from various men of God, their stories remain unchanged—they have not become what they were meant to be. Many pray earnestly against the strongholds of their father's house, yet remain stuck. However, have you come to think of it that you might be the one limiting and preventing yourself from achieving greatness. Yes it's possible!
Could it be you? How? Why?
This question might strike your mind. It could indeed be you. In 1 Samuel 15:1-35, God anointed Saul as King over Israel,God has anointed you to be a great man or woman of God, or has made you excel in your assignments, whether in the church or in your secular job. You might be leading and excelling in your office, becoming a successful business person whose goods are preferred over others. Whatever business you undertake prospers, and you grow more famous and stronger each day because you are fulfilling your purpose. Academically, you are among the best, with opportunities to travel worldwide to deliver lectures. Everywhere you go, you are preferred over others. People hear wonderful testimonies about you and your ministry, and you have a great passion for the work of God. Your ministry is expanding rapidly, surpassing your expectations and those around you. Everything seemed to be progressing well.
But you have recently noticed a gradual decline in the rate of growth. This change is evident to you and those around you, but despite your efforts in fasting and prayer, there has been no improvement. You have come to realize that your current message heavily relies on recounting past successes, and you are no longer experiencing new developments. Instead, you often refer to past achievements, which signals that you are relying on past glory rather than generating new progress.
At this point, it is crucial to examine your relationship with God. A similar situation occurred with King Saul in the Bible; he was dethroned spiritually by God when he disobeyed. As described in 1 Samuel 16:1-14, particularly verses 13-14, God replaced Saul with David immediately after his disobedience. This serves as a reminder to maintain your spiritual intimacy and alignment with God's will to sustain your ministry's growth. ‘’ On the day God anointed David, the Spirit of the Lord entered him, while departing from Saul. From that moment, Saul was dethroned spiritually, even though he continued to reign physically until David was crowned. During this time, Saul was living on past glory, as the true glory had departed from him. Though the Israelites still recognized Saul as king, the divine presence and Spirit of God had left him. His reign became ineffective, devoid of divine impartation and God's movement. Things were no longer progressing as they once had because the glory had been transferred to someone else, someone who would obey God without fearing public opinion or seeking favor from people. Understand that this past glory is incomparable to the wilderness experience.
Every genuine born-again Christian must go through their wilderness experience so that God can shape them. It's crucial for us to obey God completely, ensuring that His glory does not depart from us. Consider the story of a young, promising brother in the church. Several members received revelations about his potential as a glorious man of God. Unfortunately, he compromised his destiny during courtship by engaging with two different sisters and setting wedding dates with both. He died before marrying either of them. His deceitful heart, influenced by the fear of what people might say, as King Saul experienced, prevented him from fulfilling his glorious destiny. His untimely death likely meant his divine assignment was given to someone else.
