Hardworking or Lazy?

Hardworking or Lazy?

The question is simple: Are you a lazy person or a hard worker? The Bible teaches that diligence is key to fulfilling God’s purposes in your life. In Proverbs, we are reminded that laziness leads to poverty and downfall, while diligence is rewarded.

“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” (Proverbs 13:4)

The Example of the Ant
Scripture uses the ant as a prime example of hard work. Despite its small size, the ant gathers and prepares for the future—actions that lazy people fail to emulate.

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!” (Proverbs 6:6)

Hard Work in the Life of God's Servants
God is not ready to use the lazy; He rewards those who labour faithfully for His kingdom. Consider the examples of many faithful servants who rose to prominence through perseverance, despite facing setbacks. Their dedication to prayer, fasting, and daily Bible study helped them overcome obstacles and advance in their calling.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23)

Practical Implications of Laziness
Laziness can affect every area of your life—financially, academically, and spiritually. When you are idle, not only do you miss opportunities for growth, but you also risk stagnating in your spiritual walk. True believers are called to a life of discipline, investing time in prayer, Bible study, and service.

“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’” (2 Thessalonians 3:10)

Real-Life Examples of Diligence
Reflect on those who have made it because they never gave up. Many great figures in both the spiritual and academic worlds have faced failures and setbacks, yet they persevered. Their hardworking spirit not only advanced their own destiny but also blessed those around them. For instance, consider the testimony of leaders such as Pastor Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Kumuyi, and D.K. Olukoya, who maintained rigorous prayer and work routines despite facing challenges.

A Call to Self-Examination
Ask yourself: Are you delaying God’s presence in your life? Are you missing opportunities because you’re caught up in laziness? Dedicate your time wisely. Let your daily routine include moments to seek God’s guidance, work diligently, and persist in prayer and service.

“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Conclusion
God is not ready to pour out His blessings on those who are idle. Instead, He honours the diligent—those who work hard and commit themselves fully to His purposes. May you examine your heart, rise above laziness, and embrace a hardworking spirit that reflects your faith and dedication to God.

May God bless you with strength and perseverance as you work faithfully in every area of your life. Amen.
