Nurturing Your Spiritual Life

How do you nurture your spiritual life? And why nurture your spiritual life when we also have a physical life? From the moment you give your life to Christ, you are blessed with two distinct parts: your physical body, which we see, and your inner, spiritual being—the true essence that will accompany you into eternity.

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his soul?” (Mark 8:36) cite

Our physical life—the face, hands, and body—is temporary, for it is made from the dust of this earth and will return to it. But our spiritual life, our inner man, is eternal. When we surrender everything to Christ, we entrust not only our actions but our very souls to Him. When everyone else departs from this world, it is the inner man that stands before God to give an account of our lives.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” (Matthew 6:19-20) 

So, which one should we nurture? The one that will journey with us into heaven, or the physical body that will soon return to dust? I advise you to focus on feeding your spiritual being. How do you do that? By immersing yourself in the Word of God, by praying fervently, and by keeping your eyes fixed on heavenly things.

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians 3:2) 

Remember, nurturing your spiritual being means engaging daily in prayer. Pray every day, and allow God’s Word to shape your thoughts and actions. Live in the spirit, always mindful of heaven, planning your life as if Christ could return at any moment—even though Scripture tells us that no one knows the day or the hour (Matthew 24:36).

“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” (Matthew 24:42) 

While many invest in maintaining the physical body with expensive creams or treatments, the true treasure is the spiritual nourishment that lasts forever. Feed your inner self with Bible reading, prayer, and worship—these are the means by which the Holy Spirit transforms you.

“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) 

As you nurture your spiritual being, be intentional about what you consume with your mind. Choose to meditate on God’s truth rather than being distracted by the temporary allure of worldly things. Let your daily habits—whether watching, listening, or reading—be focused on God’s Word and His promises.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8) 

Remember: your spiritual being is what will represent you before God when your physical body fades away. Prioritize prayer, fasting, and intimacy with God. Nurture that inner light so that when the time comes, you are ready to stand in His glorious presence.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33) 

Let us commit to feeding our spiritual being daily. May you read the Bible, pray faithfully, and immerse yourself in all that draws you closer to God. Let your heart be set on the eternal treasure, knowing that the true nourishment of your soul comes from Him alone.
